Welcome to the Parishes of Sacred Heart, Berkhamsted and Corpus Christi, Tring.

But you, who do you say I am?

On this the Solemnity of SS Peter and Paul, we are asked this simple, and yet, challenging question by our Lord, Jesus Christ: “Who do you say I am?” Who do you say I am – at this time? Especially at this time.

In order to answer these questions, I suggest we take the lives and examples of the great Saints Peter and Paul as our inspiration.

Saint Peter – the Rock of the Church – like him, may we remain steadfast in faith despite our doubts, anxieties and fears. May we continue to trust that our God is with us, especially at this time.

Saint Paul – the Apostle of the Gentiles – like him, may we have the courage to proclaim our God to others (regardless of restrictions and difficulties) through our thoughts, words and actions.

In following these two biblical heavyweights, our interior and exterior lives come together allowing us to truly answer Him with the words: You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.

This week, we have received correspondence from Bishop John Sherrington  about the opening of our churches in the future:

Bishop John writes:  “Whilst there is a deep thirst to return to the central mysteries of our faith celebrated in the Mass, it is important that our faithful understand that we are not returning to how things were before lockdown and that we are still living with the pandemic….Whilst there is an easing of restrictions on public worship, it is important to reaffirm that our obligation to attend Sunday Mass remains suspended.”  Please click here for a letter from the Metropolitan Archbishops  which sets the tone and parameters for our forthcoming return to the public celebration of mass.
